Three ways I'll remember him:
When I was an impressionable kid, I read his short story, "Descending," which burned itself into my consciousness, never to scar over.
As co-editor of The Alchemy of Stars, I tried via proxy to get reprint permission from him to allow his Rhysling Award-winning poem, "On Science Fiction," to appear in the book. He refused three times, each time with more rancor, leaving us all puzzled. But:
At ReaderCon two years ago, he made an impromptu stop at the Science Fiction Poetry Assocation table, sat down beside myself and
drew_morse, chatted us up and signed autographs while he was there. I enjoyed his company and found him quite charming.
May his rest be peaceful.
